OREGON, Ill. — Enjoy a full weekend of information, education and entertainment at the 11th Annual Illinois Renewable Energy and Sustainable Lifestyle Fair Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11-12, at Ogle County Fairgrounds, 1440 N. Limekiln Road, Oregon, Ill.
Exhibits will include solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and healthy personal, home and yard care products.
Organic produce, native plants and other environmentally sound products will be for sale.
More than 50 workshops and presentations will be offered both days.
Major speakers are Fred Kirschenmann, president of Kirschenmann Family Farms, a 2,600-acre certified organic farm in Windsor, N.D., and director of the Leopold Center at Iowa State University from 2000 until 2005. Kirschenmann will speak about “Redesigning the Human Adventure: Challenges & Opportunities.”
John Perlin, who has spent years researching the history of solar energy and will present innovative solar homes in the Midwest, will be presenting, along with Paul Fenn, who developed a business model in which solar, other distributed generation, conservation and efficiency and wind are fully integrated into the portfolio of a community rather than being isolated programs run through a subsidy. He will explore the possibilities of community power generation.
Student projects will be a specialty this year. A Rock Valley College student will demonstrate his capstone project, wood cooking stoves for Third-World application. A University of Illinois freshman will explain converting his motorcycle from gasoline to electric power.
Free workshops will be offered all day both days.
