Animal Services kicks off $100K Challenge with adoption promotion through Aug. 8

To celebrate the kick-off of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) is reducing the adoption fee for adult cats and dogs from Thursday, Aug. 2, through Wednesday, Aug. 8.
The adoption fee for cats 1 year and older is $5 and dogs 1 year and older is $50. Limit one adoption per household at the reduced fee.
WCAS also extends this offer to its off-site adoption centers in the Machesney Park Petsmart and the Roscoe Aqualand Pet Center.
All adoptions include a free wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations, flea and tick preventive, worming and bag of food.
All adult dogs are heartworm tested, and Winnebago County residents receive a one-year rabies tag.
WCAS has more than 60 cats and 50 dogs for adoption.
This adoption promotion is being sponsored by the WCAS Volunteer Auxiliary.
To be eligible for grant money from the $100K Challenge, WCAS must save 300 more lives than they did in 2011. Lives saved include adoptions and lost animals returned to their owners.
