Arrest made in July 29 West State shooting, other suspects sought

Shortly after 1 a.m., Saturday, July 29, Rockford police patrol officers responded to the 3500 block of Elm Street in reference to shots fired. While en-route to the area, officers heard shots fired in the area of the 3100 block of West State Street. Upon arrival to the 3100 block of West State Street, officers located 30 spent shell casings in and around the parking lot of 3109 W. State St.
After a follow-up investigation, the following face charges as suspects in the case:
• Martel Buckley, 25, of Rockford;
• Nathaniel Horton, 23, of Rockford;
• Shawnqual J. Layne, 19, of Rockford;
• Delano Love, 25, of Rockford;
• Gregory L. Watson, 25, of Rockford; and
• Derrick Wren, 30, of Rockford.
The suspects face charges of possession of a firearm by a street gang member, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and mob action.
Buckley was taken into custody Aug. 4 and is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
