CHICAGO — Locally-produced Hand of Glory, an award-winning independent film by Stuart Wahlin, continues to accumulate nominations on the festival circuit.

Most recently, the film was nominated in the Best Feature, Best Actor (Darren Marlar of Loves Park), Best Actress (Heather Dorff of Chicago), Best Sound, Best Director and Director’s Choice categories at the Prairie State Film Festival.

The all-day festival runs Saturday, Aug. 11, at Chicago’s historic Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Earlier this summer, Hand of Glory received Best Special Effects and Honorable Mention at the Los Angeles Movie Awards. Meantime, Dorff is also nominated for Best Actress at the Maverick Movie Awards. Previously, the film has been nominated for Best Actor (Marlar) and Best Supporting Actor (Michael Schmid).

Wahlin, who is in pre-production for a new film, said the nominations come at a great time.

Our next project is significantly more ambitious, so whether we win or not, the nominations go a long way in terms of helping us get this next film off the ground,” Wahlin said.

Wahlin’s next film, Slay Utterly, is a modern crime thriller inspired by the unsolved Villisca, Iowa, ax murders of 1912.

Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction,” Wahlin explained. “Villisca is one of those instances. You couldn’t make up a more compelling story. The thing is, Villisca wasn’t an isolated incident during this time. It’s believed the same unknown killer may have been responsible for dozens of murders throughout the Midwest during a two-year period.”

The film is slated for a 2013 release. Visit http://www.facebook.com/slayutterly.
