In an effort to be a source of comfort and compassion to those in the stateline area going through this tough economic time, Calvary Christian Church and its members are hosting the “Calvary Cares” giveaway event starting at 8 a.m., Aug. 18.

Items are available completely free of charge to anyone in the area who would like them. These are gently used and good condition clothes, furniture, appliances, etc. The event will be at the church building, 5455 Charles St., Rockford.

We hope to offer the stateline area community a network of blessings in order to help alleviate some of the financial stresses that many families in the area are experiencing,” Pastor Steve Doyle said.

Donations are still being accepted through Aug. 17 at the church building. Anyone from the community is welcome to donate. Those making a donation of goods to the event will be given a receipt of their charitable gift for their records.

Donations can be dropped off at the church from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Call the church at (815) 398-4940 if you have a larger item to donate so a pick-up can be arranged.
