Hoo Haven needs meat and dog food donations
Birds of prey have healthy appetites, and Hoo Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center is requesting help from the general public. August is traditionally the time of year when Hoo’s supply of meat and dog food runs low, and donations are needed to restock food supplies. This year is no different.
Hoo Haven is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization supported solely by donations and volunteers. It has served the northern Illinois area since 1979 by caring for injured, sick or orphaned North American wildlife. Once healthy, the animals and birds are released back into nature.
Hoo Haven is accepting donations of fresh or frozen beef, venison, chicken, turkey and fish. Note that pork or ground meat is not helpful. Other supplies that are currently needed include quality dry dog food, chicken feed, sweet feed, cracked corn, unsalted peanuts or other nuts, paper towels, laundry soap, and 30-gallon garbage bags.
Food and supply donations can be dropped off seven days a week from 9 a.m. to noon at 10823 Cleveland Road, Durand (off Route 75). If necessary, call to make special arrangements. NOTE: Never can an animal be dropped off without calling first and scheduling an appointment. Non-meat donations will also be accepted at Hoo Haven’s booth in the Exhibit Hall during the Winnebago County Fair.
Monetary donations are also accepted, and 100 percent goes directly to feed and provide medical care for the animals and birds.
