Sensata workers to rally Aug. 21 at Bain Capital offices in Evanston, Ill.

Online Staff Report

Tuesday, Aug. 21, workers facing outsourcing by Bain Capital at the Sensata Technologies plant in Freeport, Ill., will be joined by U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., for a rally at Bain’s offices in Evanston, Ill., to urge the company to save their jobs.

Protesters will deliver a petition from Sensata worker Cheryl Randecker with more than 35,000 signatures from Americans across the country calling on Bain — and the company’s former CEO, presumptive Republican nominee for president Mitt Romney — to stop the plan to outsource these good, family-supporting jobs to China. Sensata Technologies, which was created by Bain Capital in 2006, develops, manufactures, and sells sensors and controls for major auto manufacturers such as Ford and General Motors. Despite rising profits, the company plans to institute the final layoffs in November — just in time for the holidays. The workers are training their Chinese replacements, who have been flown to Illinois by the company.

Over the past few months, Sensata workers have tried to reach out to Romney to use his influence with the company to help save their jobs. The workers have sent a signed letter sent to the campaign and held frequent protests outside the plant. In July, the Freeport City Council unanimously passed a resolution calling on Romney to meet the workers and use his influence at Bain to intervene on their behalf.

Aug. 13, Romney’s campaign staff called the police on workers trying to deliver their letter at the campaign’s headquarters in Madison, Wis.

It’s not just our jobs on the line, but also the future of our community and the kind of economy we’ll pass down to our kids,” said Randecker. “We hope Romney will join the 35,000 Americans who signed our petition in the fight to save our jobs and make it clear that he stands with American workers — not companies that ship good, American jobs overseas.”

Bain Capital is at 1603 Orrington Ave., Evanston, Ill.

Bill Clinton only got involved because George H. Bush was unable to wrap up the negotiations of protecting the enviroment from jobs impacts. Bill Clinton was dumb enough after signing to try to take Credit. I have very little respect for Bush senior none for George jr. Bush and all the Current Republican Politicians who signed to not raise taxes on the rich the Norquist agreement. Failing to comply would automatically remove funding from one of the biggest PACS. If they signed be they Republican or Democrat they should be taken to court. Even when we almost defaulted on our debt payments higher taxes on the rich was not a consideration. Raising the debt limit was the only GOP answer. A non Government figure is controlling Congress and has their agreement to not ever increase taxes on the rich no matter the consequences. Tat should be an act of treason.
