OREGON, Ill. — It won’t be long until the local apple orchards are in full swing with ripening fruit. Whether red, green or golden, Fuji, Gala or Jonagold, apples are tasty, delicious and nutritious.
During the one-hour “Apples: Nutritious & Delicious!” program offered Sept. 5 by University of Illinois Extension Ogle County, learn about growing apples and how to prevent or manage common problems associated with growing apples. Discuss the different varieties of apples, their uses for cooking, health and nutritional benefits apples provide and explore apple recipes.
Extension Horticulture Educator Candice Miller and Nutrition & Wellness Educator Marilyn Csernus will offer the program from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Ogle County Farm Bureau building, 421 W. Pines Road, Oregon, Ill. Cost of the program is $5 per person and pre-registration is preferred by Aug. 29.
