The Rock Valley Children’s Choir (RVCC), directed by Leah Baskin, is a performing and educational choral organization for youth in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area.
RVCC singers learn vocal technique, ear and rhythm training, sight reading, score interpretation, and both new and traditional choral literature.
The program consists of four separate choruses encompassing grades 1-12, and operates during the fall and spring semesters. Each chorus rehearses once a week and participates in two concerts per semester, as well as other community events. The Rock Valley Children’s Choir is the anchor youth ensemble at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center.
Rehearsal dates are as follows (registration open through the second rehearsal of the semester):
• Do-Re-Mi Singers (grades 1-3) — Mondays, Sept. 10-Dec. 10, 4-5:30 p.m., Spring Creek United Church of Christ, 4500 Spring Creek Road, Rockford.
• Music Makers (grades 4-8) — Tuesdays, Aug. 28-Dec. 11, 4-6 p.m., Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.
• Crescendo (grades 6-8, auditioned) — Thursdays, Aug. 23-Dec. 13, 4-6 p.m., Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.
• Encore (grades 9-12) — Thursdays, Aug. 23-Dec. 13, 5-7 p.m., Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.
Tuition is $160 per semester for Do-Re-Mi Singers, and $170 per semester for Music Makers, Crescendo and Encore.
