Photo: Red Oak Estates residents complete beautification efforts

Eight Red Oak Estates members have just completed a six-week project during the heat of the day that included digging in a large garden in the city-owned “green” at Red Oak Courtyard. Pictured from the left in the front row are Joe Graves, Tom Yanik and Steve Garbe. From the left in the back row are Jon Hart, Wayne Helfer, Ed Stein, Dave Mark and Lew Blazing. The project included clay removal, brick edging, prepared gardening areas, chipped walkways and ornamental Tamukeyama Japanese Maples. Additionally, three tulip trees were planted on the greens at Ramsey Close and Rowntree Lane, and in the parkway on Red Oak Lane. These projects were funded by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, the area’s largest provider of grants and scholarships. Its mission is to attract, grow and preserve an endowment for the needs of the people of northern Illinois. (Photo provided)
