Habitat for Humanity to dedicate 100th home

Online Staff Report

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity (RAHFH) volunteers and homeowners will celebrate a summer of hard when when they dedicate the final three of six new homes Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 3 p.m. at 3513 Sunnyside Ave. in Rockford.

The final home to be dedicated at 4 p.m. will be the 100th home built and sold in Rockford since Habitat for Humanity was incorporated in 1988.

The dedication ceremony includes a home blessing, an opportunity for the new homebuyers to thank volunteers and sponsors, a home tour and turning over of the keys.

All homes are built by volunteers and sold to qualified families for the cost of construction. Each family receives a zero-interest loan from Habitat for Humanity with a mortgage payment based on their monthly income. Many home loans are scheduled to be paid off in approximately 20 years.

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, incorporated bin 1988, is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that works in partnership with qualified families to build simple, affordable houses. Habitat homeowners purchase their houses at cost with no-interest mortgages. The families must contribute at least 300 hours of “sweat equity” labor working on the homes.
