Hey, Shaun.

I saw you around back in 2005. I recall about the stuff that Rock Valley College did back then. I, furthermore, recall in some kind of administrative note (of which I no longer have; if you use google enough, you might find it), that Jack Becherer didn't like the fact that you won. He was glad that you were no longer part of the school. I thought it was absolute B.S. that they kicked you out for your first amendment and second amendment rights.

Yes, Rock Valley College has a corrupt administrative system. It's a fascist college.

The general consensus seems to be that their policies need to change, for the sake of clarity if nothing else. If cleanliness is an issue, then they, for instance, could institute a policy of removing all flyers once a month. I think that would be fair.

While I agree that the policy does infringe on the freedoms of the students, I also believe that RVC is using this policy to keep the areas around campus neat and clean. I for one don't want to see every board on campus plastered with lost pet fliers. Also typically the clubs on campus are responsible enough to take down their postings when the time periods are over. I don't know that everyone would follow through like that.

I am also glad to see another RVC student standing up for freedom and the Constitution on campus. I was doing so back in 2005. I was raising awareness for 2nd Amendment rights in Illinois (the only state to completely ban the right to bear arms). I wore an empty holster on campus and it was working very well to start conversations with other students.

When I approached college administration to express my concerns about campus policies against firearms, they used the police to arrest me and lodge a false charge of "disorderly conduct." This was soon dropped, and I subsequently had to fail a suit in federal court as well. They tried to ban me from campus, ban me from my classes, and make me sign a paper stating I would not wear my empty holster anymore (trying to get me to forfeit my free speech rights).

Rock Valley College settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

I hope this new lawsuit by Mr. Celletti is successful too. Apparently the college still hasn't grasped freedom of speech. Maybe this lawsuit will bring them around finally. Best of luck to you, and thanks for standing up for the rights of everyone (whether they realize it or not).

It is not that that RVC receives federal funding that provides First Amendment guarantees. It is that it is an agency of state government. The 14th amendment extended First Amendment protections when dealing with state government agencies, also.

Refreshing to see a concerned RVC student interested in his constitutional rights. RVC needs to change their policy.
