Registration open for Mendelssohn’s Art Song Project Vocal Ensemble
Online Staff Report
2012-2013 season registration is now open for the Art Song Project, a Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center vocal ensemble.
The Art Song Project is a group of singers dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of art songs, which are poems set to music.
The group meets twice monthly, September through November and February through April, to sing in an informal atmosphere in the historic Emerson House, 420 N. Main St., Rockford.
Those who wish to perform will rehearse with an accompanist at the first monthly meeting and perform for the group at the second meeting.
This season, the group will focus on the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern/Contemporary musical eras, plus Shakespeare texts and women composers.
All adult singers who have studied voice and are interested in art songs are invited to participate.
The first season meeting will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Emerson House, 415 N. Church St., Rockford.
To register, submit a completed registration form and $40 participation fee to the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. Art Song Project members receive free membership in the Mendelssohn Music Network. Interested singers should Cathy Herdeman, music director, at (815) 398-4257 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
