Construction to begin Sept. 10 on South Main between Harrison/Springfield and Beltline

Construction on Illinois Route 2/South Main Street in Rockford is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 10, weather-permitting.
William Charles Construction Company is starting a $13.3 million project to reconstruct South Main Street from north of Harrison Avenue/Springfield Road to Beltline Road, south of U.S. 20.
The 2-mile section of roadway will be reconstructed with the project scheduled for completion in November 2013.
The contractor will be removing and replacing the pavement, except for the section through the U.S. 20 interchange, which will be repaired and resurfaced.
Motorists should be alert for lane closures and flaggers who will be directing traffic. Drivers need to watch for changing traffic patterns over the next year as there will be several short-term closures of different sections of the roadway. Closures of the ramps at the U.S. 20 interchange will also occur as the ramp connections are removed and replaced.
