Composite ACT scores hit 27.5 at Rockford’s Keith School

For nearly 100 years, Rockford’s Keith Country Day School has been at the forefront of college-preparatory education in the region. The school released some data Sept. 10 to support that claim by sharing composite ACT results from the 2011-12 school year.
Keith students generated a composite ACT score of 27.5 in 2011-12. Unofficially, this is the highest composite score of any high school in the region and is almost 7 points more than the state composite score of 20.9.
“We take great pride in what we define as a college preparatory program,” said Dr. Ron Lee, head of Middle and Upper School. “Our ACT scores are typically 6 to 8 points higher than the state and national averages because our faculty does an outstanding job preparing our students for college-level work.”
The ACT is taken by nearly 1.6 million students each year. The exam is designed to measure knowledge and skills in English, math, reading and science, with an optional writing test.
In addition to the SAT, colleges use the results of ACT tests along with high school grades, extracurricular activities and accomplishments to make decisions regarding admissions.
Along with the overall composite score, Keith students also did extremely well per subject area in comparison to state averages. Examples include the following:
English — Keith, 27.3; state average, 20.5;
Math — Keith, 25.8; state average, 21;
Reading — Keith, 29.4; state average, 20.7; and
Science — Keith, 26.5; state average, 20.8.
Keith Country Day School is an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory school. Located on a 15-acre campus overlooking the Rock River, Keith serves students from age 3 through grade 12 from Illinois and the southern Wisconsin area. The school is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and fully accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States and the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
