Hm, I see, dead zone means a different thing to different people. When I am out in the middle of no where and I don't get any reception on my cell phone, thats a dead zone. Curse you Verizon Wireless! How dare you declare our great farm lands a dead zone!

Typically in the delivery business there is a distance limit on where they are able to deliver. The last time I was denied a delicious Jimmy Johns sandwich I was told that I was about 18 minutes away from their store, and they don't deliver out past a 10 minute radius. Anything greater than 10 minutes would threaten their freaky fast claims, and are thus a dead zone for their delivery. Never once did the guy on the phone say I live in a desolate shanty town that is too dangerous for his minimum wage delivery boys to visit. A dead zone to Jimmy Johns is an area outside their delivery radius. A quick google mapping of your location versus the closest Jimmy Johns shows an estimated time of 12 minutes or 15 estimated with traffic. Petty to ignore an order 2 to 7 minutes outside their delivery window? A little bit. Worth dragging their store name and location through the mud? Absolutely not. Jimmy Johns may be a big corporate chain of fast food, but the employees are local folks just doing their jobs. Grow up.

Jake-O

You are a sad example of EXACTLY the kind of thinking that makes it difficult to get reasonable services for reasonable residents from reputable vendors!

Maybe we should bulldoze the section of East Side bars that highlight city crime reports for police calls.

Maybe we should bulldoze Roscoe for supplying drug users that overdose when purchasing drugs, yes, west of the river.

Maybe we should bulldoze all of the "poor" sections of town, with their empty homes just inviting crime and misdeeds just by sitting empty for long periods of time. Let's start on Fairview Ave, or Rural or maybe Guilford road with all those "for sale" signs standing for soo lonng!

But, wait, I'm sure your neighborhood is PERFECT isn't it, Jake-O?

If you are in business to provide products and services to all that choose your offer, shouldn't your business offer to reach all that choose to purchase your products?

The truth does hurt doesn't it? I am tired of all of these "downtowners," talk about how great the downtown area is. And, Mr. Schier is one of the loudest. Truth is, people, downtown Rockford is a dirty place. Homeless and mentally ill crawl the streets morning, noon and night. It is pathetic. Forgive the "corporate sandwiches," Frank, for wanting to protect their young drivers from getting jacked by the bums, hookers, drunks and muggers who hang out down by the Rock River Times building. Truth is, the city may start looking nicer if they bulldozed much of downtown. Start with the Lafayette. That would get rid downtown of slew of crack smokers right there. Frank, printing this little "note" just made you look like a proverbial fool! The Rock River Times continues to not get it! Sad.

Well Frank, you're ALMOST a westsider now!

Being refused delivery from a national "reputable" business because you're in the "wrong" neighborhood? Disappointing to be told your dollars just arent good enough?

What about this "zone" business? There are "zones of acceptability" in Rockford?

It happens all the time west of the river Frank! I'm just surprised at your surprise! Keep calling, report your address as being just 2 blocks west of your office and see the response of a large number of, oh, let's call 'em "Eastside eateries, services and suppliers" that find many different excuses [including exorbitant estimates for services, "delivery radius", "regions", "zones", and "competition"] to select NOT to serve you because of your location!

Now imagine being a resident living this treatment everyday!

Yea, the truth hurts. Downtown Rockford is a "dead-zone". Crime? Parking? who knows. I only go there when I absolutely have no other choice.
