Rockford man dies in one-vehicle crash on North Sixth Street

A 24-year-old Rockford man has died as a result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash in the 300 block of North Sixth Street in Rockford. The accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Chad Elder was pronounced dead in surgery at SwedishAmerican Hospital at 1:24 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12.

According to a press release from the Rockford Fire Department, fire units were dispatched for a one-vehicle accident on fire with people trapped. The first engine on scene found a vehicle with fire showing an extensive front-end damage.

Multiple patients were located around the vehicle and one patient still entrapped. Extrication and suppression units were able to free the patient within 19 minutes.

A total of four ambulances responded, and all three hospitals received one critical trauma patient. Three of the four patients had life-threatening injuries.
