Online Staff Report
LOVES PARK, Ill. — Lifescape Community Services’ annual Senior EXPO is set for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13-14, at the Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park, Ill.
Many things are in store for attendees this year, from the latest information about products, programs, activities and services for any senior, to an opportunity to win a big jackpot Friday afternoon.
Nutrition bingo will be held in the Fun Area. Following the theme of “Fit and Fabulous!” visitors can learn to be more fit and remain fabulous.
Beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, Soap Flossers will entertain with an eclectic mix of original music. The group is composed of Matt Flamm, guitarist and singer-songwriter, and his wife, Rea, a cellist and vocalist.
At 11 a.m., Sue Michaelsen exhibits the EXPO theme with a demonstration of Tai Chi and other Eastern-style exercises. She will also perform Friday morning at 11 a.m.
At noon, the Boot Scootin’ Seniors from Oregon, Ill., will perform on the stage, and at 1 p.m., Robert Dulski of the Illinois Comptroller’s Office will offer information about dangers of identity theft and how to prevent it. Dulski will also offer information Friday afternoon, again at 1 p.m., about credit, your credit rating and how to keep it secure.
Friday on the stage, beside repeat performances from Michaelsen and Dulski, Mike Lynch will perform at 10 a.m. Lynch is Rockford-born and has been playing since age 14. He plays solo acoustic guitar and vocals with rack harmonica. He is a 2009 and 2010 RAMI (Rockford Area Music Industry) Award nominee in the Solo/Folk category.
On the stage Friday at noon is a special presentation by the chief meteorologists of Rockford’s three news stations. Eric Sorensen of WREX, Mark Herndon of WIFR and Brandon Arnold of WTVO/WQRF will be talking about — what else — the weather! Among other topics, the three will be talking about weather technology, climate change and severe weather. They will also be taking questions about weather and climate in northern Illinois.
Exhibition booths for the expo are still available; however, they are selling quickly. Visit www.lifescapeservices.org or call Alan Jones at Lifescape Community Services at (815) 963-1609.
