Man sentenced to seven years for possession with intent to deliver, aggravated DUI

Eric O. Steward Jr., 24, was sentenced Sept. 13 by Judge Ronald White to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) concurrent for the offenses of possession with the intent to deliver more than 15 grams but less than 100 grams of a substance containing cocaine and aggravated DUI alcohol. Steward pled guilty to the offenses Aug. 30.
This offense was a result of a welfare check conducted by the Rockford Police Department July 23, 2011. During the course of the investigation, the police recovered approximately 26.6 grams of cocaine from the center console of a vehicle where they had located Steward asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle at a gas pump at a gas station in the 2200 block of West Riverside Boulevard in Rockford. Steward displayed signs of impairment and was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Possession with the intent to deliver 15-100 grams of cocaine is a class X felony with a sentencing range of six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Aggravated DUI is a class 2 felony with a sentencing range of three to 14 years in the IDOC.
