Areon Flutes opens Sounds from the Sanctuary Series Sept. 23

At 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, Areon Flutes will kick off the second Sounds from the Sanctuary Concert Series at Rockford’s First Lutheran Church, 225 S. Third St.
Areon Flutes includes Jill Heinke, Kassey Plaha and Amelia Vitarelli.
Based in the San Francisco area, Areon Flutes has received high praise throughout the country for its remarkable performances, providing concert-goers with fresh perspectives on traditional chamber music, incorporating every member of the flute family in its innovative concerts, and creatively engaging audiences with unique staging, theatrics and choreography.
Areon Flutes received the bronze medal at the prestigious Fischoff 2008 Chamber Music Competition and recently released their new CD, Gossip Cats Are Dancing.
Heinke grew up in Rockford and graduated from Rockford Auburn High School. She was an Academic All-Star, a Rockford Register Star Young American, and the 1999 recipient of the Rockford Area Music Industry’s (RAMI) Gary S. Wilmer Memorial Scholarship. She subsequently graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara, received her master’s degree in flute performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and as a 2004 Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar, studied at the Royal College of Music in London.

First Lutheran, at the corner of Third and Oak streets, is in the heart of Rockford’s historic Haight Village. A large parking lot sits adjacent to the church. Street parking and nearby public lots are also available. First Lutheran is handicap accessible.
