Auburn High opens season with ‘Mother Hicks’ Sept. 27-30

Rockford Auburn High School’s Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) will present Mother Hicks, its first theater production of the season, in four performances Sept. 27-30.
Mother Hicks is a story of witchcraft. Set in Ware, Ill., in the midst of the Great Depression, this folktale is the story of three outcast individuals. The first is a foundling girl, known simply as Girl, as she searches for the woman who gave her birth. The second is a deaf boy, Tuc, whose only way of communication is through signed word and the reading of lips. The third is Mother Hicks, a free-spirited woman accused of killing children and burning crops. The three find each other and themselves in a troubled time.
This tale puts significant emphasis on poetry by the blending of the spoken and signed word.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 27-29, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30. Tickets are $5 for the Sept. 27 performance and $8 for the Sept. 28-30 performances.
