Jazz at Emerson features Five to Go Sept. 20

Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s next “Jazz at Emerson” concert featuring Five to Go will be at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at the historic Emerson House, 420 N. Main St., Rockford.
Concertgoers can enjoy the swinging sounds of jazz, relax with a glass of wine and light refreshments, and meet the performers after the program, which is about an hour-and-a-half in length.
Five to Go (formerly Bad Chapeau) is a newly-formed jazz group consisting of Phil Pilcher on sax and flulte, Jeff Layng on trumpet, Bob Rub on piano, Dave Timmcke on bass, and Ed Bogdonas on drums. The group performs contemporary groove-oriented jazz, including both standards and original compositions. Featuring a traditional five-piece setup, Five to Go achieves a lush variety of sounds and textures.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds to benefit the musicians and the “Jazz at Emerson” Series.
“Jazz at Emerson” takes place one Thursday per month, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Emerson House in the heart of downtown Rockford. Doors open at 5 p.m. Seating is limited, so arrive early.
