Oct. 21 CROP Hunger Walk aims to raise $50,000 for local food pantries, worldwide hunger relief

The 27th Rockford Area CROP Hunger Walk is set for Sunday, Oct. 21. Registration begins at 1 p.m., with step-off at 2 p.m. at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford.

The raises money from the walkers who find sponsors. More than 45 religious congregations, civic organizations and businesses support more than 300 walkers.

Last year, the walk raised $44,000. The goal for this year is 400 walkers and $50,000.

The money is shared with local food pantries and worldwide hunger relief through Church World Service. People are welcome to designate other overseas relief organizations as well.

Chairman is the Rev. David Jones from First Presbyterian Church, who’s led the walk successfully for the last five years. Jones is a retired Presbyterian clergyman, is chairman of the CROP Hunger Walk committee, and recruits churches, schools and other organizations to participate in the walk.
