The opening ceremony for the Beloit section of the Rock River Trail Water Trail was held Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the John Rose Canoe & Kayak Launch, 534 Fourth St. (adjacent to the Chester Square Public Parking Lot and the Paddle and Trail store) in downtown Beloit, Wis. The ceremony was attended by (from left) Mark Spreitzer, vice president, City of Beloit Council; Sheila De Forest, City of Beloit councilor and member of the Rock River Trail Initiative Council; State Sen. Tim Cullen, (D-15); Helen Forbeck, field representative for U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-2); Brian Ramsey, director of Parks & Leisure Services for the City of Beloit; Brigit Brown, state trails coordinator, Wisconsin DNR; Spencer Waite, recreation supervisor, City of Beloit; John Kalkirtz, Senior Center supervisor, City of Beloit; Tyler Foster, producer, Shaun Zinck, reporter, Beloit Daily News; Shawn Fredericks, Beloit Memorial health and physical education teacher, School District of Beloit ; Water Loos, co-owner, Paddle & Trail; Therese Oldenburg, marketing and operations director, Paddle & Trail; Greg Farnham, coordinator, Rock River Trail Initiative.
