Screamatorium, Fear Asylum open for season Oct. 5
Still think Halloween is just for kids? Think again! Get ready to scream your head off as R.I.P. Productions brings you northern Illinois’ ultimate haunted experience! The Screamatorium is not only one of the scariest haunted houses, but was ranked the No. 1 Top Haunted Attraction in the area.
This intense, cutting-edge haunted attraction has been striking fear into the hearts of terrified visitors since 2008, and this year has once again risen the bar offering new excitement, over-the-top thrills and nonstop, action-packed experiences all at a new location with more than 7,000 square feet of pure terror.
Welcome to Home Sweet Hell. Journey through “Kreepo’s” sinister nightmare filled with condemned souls wallowing in the dark wretchedness. Fears are made flesh … darkness, pain, suffering, horror and blood are only the beginning … R.S.V.P., or DIE!
Check out the gift shop, with everything from glow items, T-shirts, novelty items and sweet treats, or chill out and grab some goodies from the “BOOter’s” concession stand, offering nachos, pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, hot chocolate and more.
Horrifying experiments bred an army of hideous abominations that roam the chambers where The Contagium was first created. It is a place where the evil is so contagious that your mind goes numb.
New for 2012 is “Quarantine!” (inside the chambers of the Fear Asylum), a twisted mind game that will disturb, shock and exhilarate even the most extreme fright fanatic. After signing a waiver and agreeing to the rules, random victims (18 and older) will literally be thrown into absolute darkness outfitted with only a protective mask and a dim flashlight. You will be told to do required actions as you experience simulated scenes of horror, physical contact, tight spaces, darkness, fog, strobe lights and crawling. You will be required to go through this portion alone!
The Screamatorium is at the Arte Verde Garden Center, 15630 Illinois Route 76 in Poplar Grove, Ill. Fear Asylum is at Belvidere Park District (William Grady Pool), 916 W. Lincoln Ave., Belvidere, Ill. Event times for both locations are 7-11 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays and Halloween, and 7-10 p.m., weekdays and Sundays.
Because of the intense nature of the Screamatorium and Fear Asylum, parental guidance is strongly recommended for ages 13 and younger. Open Oct. 5-7, 12-14, 18-21 and 24-31. Discount coupons are available throughout the area. Tickets can be purchased at the event or online at www.trailofscreams.com. For more information or group rates, call the Frightline at (815) 965-6772.
