Cherry Valley man dies in fatal car crash on Route 20

Ken A. Neal, 60, of Cherry Valley, Ill., is dead following a fatal car crash that occurred 1 mile west of Alpine Road on U.S. Route 20 at around 3:50 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2.
According to preliminary information released by the Illinois State Police, a 2002 gray Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Neal and a 2006 white Mack truck tractor pulling a 1989 Dorsey semitrailer driven by Dean E. Fisher, 54, of Bushnell, Ill., were traveling east on the U.S. Route 20 bypass near Alpine Road. Because of road work in the area, traffic had slowed to approximately 25 miles per hour. The Mack truck slowed with traffic, and the Chevrolet rear-ended the semitrailer. The Chevrolet immediately became engulfed in flames.
Fisher was transported to a local hospital.
Illinois State Police District 16 is investigating the crash, and a crash reconstruction has begun. Assisting agencies include Rockford Police, Illinois State Police District 15 and the Winnebago County Coroner.
