Online Staff Report
Rock Valley College (RVC) has named Craig Doty as the new head coach for men’s basketball.
Doty comes to RVC with extensive coaching experience at the NJCAA, NCAA and NAIA levels. He has previously held assistant coaching positions at the University of Sioux Falls (South Dakota) and at Riverland Community College (Minnesota).
Prior to that, he also served as interim head men’s basketball coach at NJCAA Division I Central Wyoming College (CWC) in 2011. With only one returning player, Doty received nine commitments and recruited a roster that would go on to achieve a 20-11 record, the most wins in more than 20 years at the school.
During his tenure at CWC, Doty coached three players who signed NCAA Division I scholarships including Bojan Mihajlovic (University of Texas-Arlington), Jonathan Mesghna (University of Maine) and James Johnson (California State-Fullerton).
Doty is a native of Alcester, S.D., and a graduate of Alcester-Hudson High School. In his senior season, Doty set the school record for points per game in a season with an average of 25.5. Doty graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa (where he would also later serve as an assistant coach), with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in business administration.
RVC is coming off its best season for men’s basketball in 10 years after finishing 20-11 last season. The 2012-2013 season opens at home Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m., versus McHenry County College.
