FREEPORT, Ill. — The annual Local History and Writers Series will return to Freeport Public Library in October. This year’s topics/presentaters range from historical and paranormal mystery novels to Freeport’s famed Dirksen Filigree Silver and some of Stephenson County’s early industrialists.
All presentations will be at Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas St., begin at 7 p.m., are open to the public free of charge, and will also offer free coffee and cookies.
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday, Oct. 4 — Paranormal mysery novelist Terri Reid will discuss her novels and experiences with the publishing industry.
Wednesday, Oct. 10 — Historical fiction writer May Lynn MacDonald Luy will discuss her novel Miracle Child, as well as her experiences with the publishing indutry.
Tuesday, Oct. 16 — Freeporter Tom Mordini, collector of Dirksen Filigree Silver, will discuss his own collection, the history of the Dirksen firm and invite others to bring in their pieces of Dirksen Filigree Silver to show.
Monday, Oct. 22 — Dr. Ed Finch will discuss three of Stephenson County’s early industrialists: Daniel Stover, W.T. Rawleigh and John H. Henney Sr.
This series is co-sponsored by the Stephenson County Historical Society and the Freeport Public Library Foundation.
