Tibetan Buddhist monks at Rockford’s Womanspace Oct. 7

Online Staff Report

Rockford’s Womanspace will host the national tour of Tibetan Buddhist monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery for an event at their campus at 3333 Maria Linden Drive.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama summoned the monks to the East Coast to create a sand mandala the weekend they were originally scheduled to appear at Womanspace. Fortunately, they agreed to visit Rockford a week earlier, and will now perform a fire puja with sacred chants and prayers for world peace from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, in Womanspace’s Anjali Pavilion.

The monks will perform blessings, and Tibetan shawls, wall hangings, prayer beads, bags, CDs, T-shirts, and other items will be sold.

Admission to this Arts @Anjali event is $10 for ages 14 to adult, and $5 for ages 13 and younger. Proceeds benefit Drepung Gomang and Womanspace. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.

Registration is requested by Oct. 4, though walk-ins will be accepted.

For more information or to register, call (815) 877-0118, visit Womanspace during office hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Thursday), or visit www.womanspace-rockford.org or www.Facebook.com/Womanspace.
