The OSF Saint Anthony Center for Health Fitness is showing kids the fun side of staying fit with a new fitness class. Starting in October, the Center for Health will offer ZumbAtomic, a Zumba class designed for children ages 8-12 years old.
ZumbAtomic is a part of the Zumba fitness franchise. The class features the latest music and dance moves packed into a fun, high-energy program that is designed to help participants increase their self-confidence, boost their metabolism and improve their coordination.
“The best way to instill healthy habits in children is by making it fun,” said Elizabeth Villarreal, licensed Zumba and ZumbAtomic instructor at the OSF Center for Health. “The more fun they have, the more likely they will be to want to get physically active and fit.”
ZumbAtomic will be offered from 8:45-9:45 a.m. on Sundays, starting Oct. 7 at the OSF Saint Anthony Center for Health, 5510 E. State St., Rockford.
Cost for a day pass is $5 to attend any or all of the classes offered that day. Monthly rates are $25 (corporate rate and senior citizens); $30 (automatic withdrawal with credit card); $35 (cash or check per month).
ZumbAtomic is the latest addition to OSF Saint Anthony programming geared toward helping children stay physically fit. In 2011, OSF Saint Anthony introduced Children and Teens Choosing Health (CATCH), a six-week program designed to combat childhood obesity by helping families make healthy lifestyle changes.
