Oct. 13 Soup-r-Fest! benefits Shelter Care Ministries
• Event includes Soup Challenge, kids’ activities, MarketPlace vendors and live music
Shelter Care Ministries’ first-ever Rockford Soup-r-Fest! is fast approaching. The event for families is from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at the corner of Park and Court streets.
MarketPlace vendors will show their wares from noon until 6 p.m., while the Soup Challenge, music, children’s activities and children’s art show will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m.
First up on the ShowMobile stage, the Pat Betts Duo, featuring a member of Missing Links, will offer its mix of classic rock and R&B to attendees via keyboard and percussion. Carlita will play her blues, folk and rock stylings in the MarketPlace vendor area from 1 to 2 p.m., and from 3 to 5 p.m., the ShowMobile will spotlight the music of Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) award-winner Shooter. Their sound is influenced by Lynyrd Skynyrd, BlackFoot and Marshall Tucker Band.
The MarketPlace will highlight a variety of products and services, from sandwiches to sweets and jewelry to massages. Several vendors have offered to rebate a portion of their profits back to Shelter Care Ministries as they believe in the agency mission to “Provide Shelter, Awaken Hope and Honor Dignity” for the clients Shelter Care serves.
Admission is $5 and children younger than 6 are free. The admission fee provides soup, chips and dessert. Volunteers are still needed. Call Carol West at (815) 964-5520 or e-mail her at email@example.com.
Shelter Care Ministries is a United Way and Episcopal Ministries partner. Its programs include the Jubilee Center, serving mentally ill individuals, MAYA’s House, a drop-in day care for homeless children, and the Housing Program for families that are homeless.
