West State from Kilburn to Stewart Avenue closed until Dec. 1

West State Street in Rockford will be closed from Kilburn Avenue to Stewart Avenue from Oct. 10 to Dec. 1 to allow work to begin on the water and sewer main reroute.

The project consists of the abandonment of existing water mains, valves, vaults, services and associated appurtenances; construction of 8-inch, 16-inch and 24-inch diameter water main, valves, hydrants, services and associated appurtenances; lining of an existing 24-inch diameter water main with 14-inch and 18-inch HDPE pipe; abandonment of sewers, sewer manhole removals, manhole replacements, construction of 8-inch, 10-inch and 15-inch diameter sanitary sewer and associated services and appurtenances to remove potential conflicts with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s West State Street roadway reconstruction plans.

A marked detour is in place.
