Man sentenced to 14 years for 2011 residential burglary

Edward Rodriguez, 47, pled guilty Aug. 17 to residential burglary and was sentenced Oct. 10 to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Oct. 21, 2011, officers responded to a residential burglary. Upon arrival, officers met with the homeowner, who advised she was in her bedroom on the telephone with her daughter when she heard a knock at the back door to the residence. She advised she did not go open the door and then her door was forced open.
A male entered the woman’s residence, asked for money and jewelry. He then rummaged through dresser drawers.
The suspect left the residence with jewelry.
Rockford detectives identified the suspect as Rodriguez. Rodriguez spoke with detectives and admitted he took the jewelry.
Residential burglary is a class 1 felony with a sentencing range of four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Defendant is class X sentencing six to 30 years based on prior record; extended term based on the victim’s age being 60 years or older; sentencing range was six to 60 years, non-probationable. The defendant was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with three years mandatory supervised release.
