CROP Hunger Walk preps for 26th annual event Oct. 21

The 26th Annual CROP Hunger Walk is Sunday, Oct. 21, and raises money from walkers who find sponsors. More than 35 churches, religious organizations, two schools, civic organizations and businesses support more than 300 walkers.
Last year, the walk raised $47,000. This will be the 27th CROP Hunger Walk. The goal is 300 walkers and $50,000.
The money is shared with local food pantries and worldwide hunger relief through Church World Service, the largest and best equipped. People are welcome to designate other overseas relief organizations as well. More than $50,000 over the last 10 years has been donated to local food pantries.
A walker bringing in $100 in sponsorships will receive a free T-shirt. A walker who brings in more than $250 will receive a pin, will be included in a drawing for various gift cards, and the walker’s organization will be matched by an “angel.”
Chairman of the CROP Hunger Walk is the Rev. David Jones from First Presbyterian Church, who’s led the walk successfully for the last five years. Jones is a retired Presbyterian Clergyman, is chairman of the committee and recruits churches, schools and other organizations to participate in the walk.
The walk will begin at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford, with registration at 1 p.m. and step-off at 2p.m.
