Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally Oct. 20

A Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally will be held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Stanley J. Roszkowski U.S. Courthouse, 327 S. Church St., Rockford.
This peaceful, nationwide event, the third of its kind, will protest the HHS Mandate and other attacks on religious freedom coming from the federal government.
Organizers of the rally note that the HHS Mandate comes from the Department of Health and Human Services under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), which requires employer health plans to include free contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of moral or religious convictions.
The HHS Mandate provides a “religious exemption” so narrow that it excludes such religious ministries as educating the young, caring for the sick and feeding the hungry. Religious employers like Catholic schools and hospitals will be forced to provide services that directly contradict their doctrine.
The first two Stand Up rallies were March 23 and June 8. More than 300 rallies were held in cities and towns across the country, with attendance topping 125,000.
The rally will include colorful signs and banners and speeches from local religious, business, family and political leaders about fighting the current attacks on religious freedom like the HHS Mandate. People are invited to join in hymns for our nation.
Speakers will include: Lawrence Jacobs, vice president and managing director of World Congress of Families and the Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society; Pastor David Coke of Living Faith Church; Frank Gambino, a Rockford businessman who is running for the Illinois State Senate in the 34th District; and Father Gerald Christianson of Holy Family Church.
