Arts Council names Mayor’s Arts Award winners

Rockford Area Arts Council (RAAC) hosted the 2012 State of the Arts Awards Oct. 3 at Cliffbreakers in Rockford. The Arts Council’s annual fund-raiser honored recipients of the Mayor’s Arts Awards and celebrated achievements in the arts for the past year. Awards were given to: Individual Artist, Prince Alonzo Russell; Lawrence E. Gloyd Community Impact, Christine Swanberg; and Creative Cultural Event, “Rockford Hometown History” presented by Rockford Lutheran Schools.

Also, the Arts Council made a Change for the Better by collecting change at the RAAC State of the Arts Awards or the RAAC office at 713 E. State St., Rockford, between regular business hours through the month of October — Arts and Humanities Month. Funds raised from the RAAC Change Campaign will help support those RAAC services including individual artists, arts organizations, and nonprofits wishing to bring the arts to people who typically don’t have access to the arts. Be an Artsaver and help them support, promote and develop the arts for everyone.
