Rockford’s Edgebrook shopping center, 1601 N. Alpine Road, will host its Seventh Annual Festival of Fantasy Children’s Costume Contest and Halloween Arts Festival beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
A performance by children’s songwriter, singing sensation and two-time Parent’s Choice Award winner the incredible Jeanie B! will kick off the festival.
A parade will be held at noon, followed by the costume contest at 12:30 p.m. Contest divisions are for children age infant to 12 years of age. Division prizes will include trophies down to second place. A grand prize of an age- and gender-appropriate specialized bicycle, courtesy of Kegel’s Bicycle Store, will be awarded.
New this year is a Haunted History Division in which contestants can portray either a famous person from history or an ordinary citizen from a different time period. For example, Abraham Lincoln or a Civil War soldier or nurse, Amelia Earhart or a Jazz-Age flapper, Betsy Ross or an 18th-century town crier, or Daniel Boone or a pioneer woman.
A spectacular exhibition of every owl species native to Illinois will be on display, as well as numerous arts and craft activities and storytelling events.
Registration is required, and treat bags will be given out as long as supplies lasts. Numerous raffles will occur throughout the event, and Bookworm Café will demonstrate healthy snack choices for kids during the festival.
