Literary Hook: ‘Scripture and Sonnet in Song’ set for Nov. 4

For that rare breed of person who enjoys the beautiful sonnets of Shakespeare and Wordsworth, or the poetry of Yeats, the Rock Valley Master Chorale has something special in store for you. And for that rare person who remembers or loves the spectrum of music and composition of George Shearing, there’s a real treat in store for you, too. Imagine the combination of sonnet and jazz. That’s just part of this semester’s Rock Valley Chorale performance.
“Scripture and Sonnet in Song” will be presented at 3 p.m., Nov. 4, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., Rockford. A freewill offering will be taken for the benefit of the Rock Valley College Music Scholarship. A few of the poems will also be read to savor their meanings and message.
In particular, the poems highlighted will be “The World is Too Much With Us,” by William Wordsworth; “Innisfree,” by William Butler Yeats; and “Sigh No More Ladies,” “Live with Me and Be my Love” and “Who is Silvia?” by William Shakespeare.
These pieces will be featured in the third part of the performance and are a must for poetry lovers. The first and second parts of the performance feature scripture and other lyrics set to music, providing a full afternoon for varied tastes and pleasures.
