The Rock Valley College (RVC) volleyball team will look to advance to the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) national tournament for the third straight season as regional play continues Saturday, Oct. 27, at RVC.
RVC is the host site for this year’s NJCAA Region IV District B tournament, and the Golden Eagles come in as the No. 1 seed after compiling a record of 10-2 in conference play and 35-8 overall.
As the No. 1 seed, RVC earned a first-round bye and will take on No. 4 Joliet, which defeated Triton Wednesday night, Oct. 24. The teams will play the first semi-final match at 10 a.m., Saturday, in the Physical Education Center (PEC) gym on RVC’s main campus, 3301 N. Mulford Road.
The second semi-final between No. 2 Harper College and No. 3 Madison College will take place at noon with the regional championship match scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Golden Eagles have advanced to the regional championship match in every season since 2007 and won it the last two seasons under Head Coach Abby Jenkins before going on to finish third at the national tournament both seasons. In 2004, RVC finished runner-up at the national tournament under Ben Staupe, and won NJCAA national titles in 1996 and 1997 under Heidi Hutchison.
