Pro Baseball: RiverHawks announce 2013 schedule, camps and clinics offered
The Rockford RiverHawks professional baseball team will open the 2013 Frontier League season at home Friday, May 17, against the Frontier Greys. The opening six-game home series will continue through Thursday, May 23, with an off day May 20.
Rockford, along with the Gateway Grizzlies, Joliet Slammers, Normal CornBelters, River City Rascals, Schaumburg Boomers and the Windy City ThunderBolts will make up the West Division of the 14-team league.
The East Division will consist of the Evansville Otters, Florence Freedom, Frontier Greys, Lake Erie Crushers, Southern Illinois Miners, Traverse City Beach Bums and the Washington Wild Things.
The 96-game regular-season schedule will include three additional home games for the RiverHawks, bringing 51 games to RiverHawks Stadium.
The Frontier League All-Star Break will be July 15-18 and the Frontier League playoffs will begin Sept. 7.
RiverHawks’ season tickets and mini-plans are on sale. Fans have a variety of packages to choose from for the upcoming 2013 season.
Plans start at $63 and full-season ticket-holders receive many benefits, including free parking and the no wasted ticket policy.
Purchase a full-season ticket plan (51 games) by Dec. 21 and receive a game-worn RiverHawks’ jersey.

Hitting, catching camps offered
Kevin Vest, head baseball coach at Rock Valley College and bench coach for the Rockford RiverHawks, will be offering hitting and catching camps throughout the next several months.
Hitting camps will take place at the Edge Training Academy inside the Fusion Sports Complex, 7135 Clinton Road, Loves Park, Ill. Camps will run from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 17, Dec. 15, Jan. 19, 2013, and Feb. 16, 2013.
Vest will also run a weekly catching academy on Tuesday nights at the Wallbangers Academy, 1110 Windsor Road, Loves Park, Ill. The catching academy will begin Nov. 6 and take place every Tuesday until Dec. 18. There are two groups, one starting at 7 p.m. and one beginning at 8 p.m.
Both camps are limited in enrollment.

Baseball clinic offered on Black Friday
Rockford RiverHawks Assisant Coach Justin Small will hold a clinic on Black Friday, Nov. 23, for 7- to 18-year-olds.
The clinic will focus on hitting instruction for half of the time while the other half will have an emphasis on defense.
The first session is for ages 7-13 and runs from 6 to 9 a.m. Session two runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is for 14- to 18-year-olds. Participants can be dropped off as early as one half-hour before their session begins.
The clinics will be at Wallbangers Academy, 1110 Windsor Road, Loves Park, Ill., and the cost is $50, which can be payed the day of the clinic.
