Rockford East High student arrested for bringing gun to school

A 16-year-old Rockford East High School student was arrested Thursday, Nov. 1, after police received an anonymous tip he had a gun.
The tip was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m., Nov. 1. Staff notified administrators and the Rockford Police School Resource Officer. The officer and staff members then located the student in a classroom.
The student was detained and a handgun was found in his backpack.
The student has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons and unlawful possession or storage of a weapon on school grounds. He was transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center and will be referred to Juvenile Court.
