Huntington Learning Center celebrates American Education Week

The week of Nov. 11-17, Huntington Learning Center in Rockford will recognize American Education Week, a celebration of public education and the people who make a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education. First observed in 1921, the National Education Association’s American Education Week is now in its 91st year.
Huntington will join the National Education Association’s daily observances throughout the week, as follows:
• Monday, Nov. 12: Veterans Day
• Tuesday, Nov. 13: Parents Day
• Wednesday, Nov. 14: Education Support Professionals Day
• Thursday, Nov. 15: Educator for a Day
• Friday, Nov. 16: Substitute Educators Day
“For 155 years, the National Education Association has worked to advocate for quality education for all students — a mission that Huntington Learning Center stands behind,” said Orville McElfresh of the Rockford Huntington Learning Center. “American Education Week is an important commemoration of the people and communities who believe in the importance of great education and work hard every day to give children the tools to succeed.”
American Education Week was born when the National Education Association and the American Legion came together in 1919 to generate public support for education. The first observance of American Education Week was in December 1921.
In honor of American Education Week, the Rockford Huntington Learning Center has planned activities to spotlight this awareness event in the community and at the center.
“In our quest to give every child the best education possible, Huntington has always encouraged parent and community involvement, and this is a great opportunity for all of us to come together in the name of education,” said McElfresh. “Educating our people is key to our nation’s success, and we are excited to show our support of American Education Week.”
