Nov. 10 event at Rockford College explores life as an astronaut

Stephen Siconolfi, Ph.D., FACSM, dean of the college and vice president of academic affairs at Rockford College, is also a former senior research scientist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Dr. Siconolfi will present “Living and Working in Space” as part of the college’s Fall Forum Series at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, in Peterson Auditorium, Starr Science Center, Room 207 on the Rockford College campus, 5050 E. State St., Rockford.

Dr. Siconolfi will present a lecture that addresses the physics of microgravity, how astronauts complete acts of daily living, and physiological adaptations to and after spaceflight. In addition, he will share more about an area of his own research regarding exercise countermeasures currently in use on the International Space Station to help keep astronauts fit for duty on the space station, and possible future missions to the moon or Mars.

After the presentation, a Russian countermeasure space suit from his personal collection will be on display.
