Rockford’s Dick’s Sporting Goods store victim of ‘flash mob’ retail theft

Dick’s Sporting Goods, 6380 E. State St., was the victim of a “flash mob” retail theft at around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7.

About eight black men and women entered the store en masse carrying garbage bags, which they filled with an unspecified number of coats. When employees attempted to approach the suspects, two of them took out vials of Mace, but did not use it.

The group fled in three vehicles, including a silver PT Cruiser, a gold Buick four-door and a dark-colored four-door vehicle.

No injuries were reported.
