Two arrested after attempting to burglarize pawn shop on Broadway

Two men have been arrested after attempting to burglarize a pawn shop at 1240-1242 Broadway, Rockford. The men were caught by police after a passing motorist called police to notify them of the break-in.

The motorist reported seeing two men break a window of the shop around 5:45 a.m. The men gained entry to the store and were in the midst of the burglary when police arrived.

One of the men escaped, while the other, a 28-year-old Rockford man, was captured by police after a foot chase.

Questioning of the first suspect led to the arrest of the second suspect at around 6:35 a.m. in the 1300 block of Fourth Avenue.
