One in custody, another sought in connection with Nov. 12 shooting on South School Street

One suspect has been arrested and another is at large in the Nov. 12 shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of South Winnebago Street.

A 16-year-old male was arrested Nov. 13 in a business in the 900 block of South School Street. He was reportedly in possession of a handgun and marijuana at the time of his arrest. As a result, the minor will also be charged with armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon, no firearm owner’s identification card and possession with intent to deliver cannabis within 1,000 feet of a school.

The two suspects are also facing charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the Nov. 12 shooting.

Police are still in search of the second suspect, Scotty B. Valentine, 24, of Rockford. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Valentine should contact Rockford police at (815) 987-5824 or Crime Stoppers at (815) 963-7867.

The shooting occurred shortly before 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg in the 1200 block of South Winnebago Street.
