Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful’s Recycling Center open Saturdays, including Nov. 24
LOVES PARK, Ill. — Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) reminds area residents that the Recycling Center operates Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon, at 5253 McCurry Road, Roscoe, Ill., including Nov. 24, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
KNIB’s Recycling Center is the only all-volunteer staffed recycling center in the region. It has operated Saturday mornings in Roscoe for 22 years. Last year, an average of 113 cars dropped off recyclables every week.
Since late September, the site has been hosted by American Aluminum Extrusion Co. on McCurry Road. To volunteer, call the KNIB office weekdays at (815) 637-1343, or fill in the form under “Get Involved!” on the website, www.knib.org.
The Recycling Center accepts the following items, preferably pre-separated:
Glass containers: Food jars and bottles only (green, brown and clear). Rinse thoroughly. Remove and dispose of caps and lids.
Plastic containers: Bottles coded No. 1 and No. 2 with “necks and shoulders.” Rinse thoroughly. Caps and lids are not accepted.
Six-pack plastic rings
Metal cans: Food cans only, rinsed thoroughly.
Aluminum: Cans and scrap (clean foil, pie tins, etc.)
Paper: Newspapers, sale ads, direct mail, paper bags, office paper, computer paper, chipboard such as cereal boxes and magazines. Bundle in paper bags.
Since 1988, KNIB has engaged all elements of the community to enhance neighborhoods by reducing, reusing and recycling the world’s resources for future generations.
