17-year-old shot and killed after attempting to rob Rockford jewelry store

Shortly before 5 p.m., Nov. 30, Rockford police responded to Jewelry Concepts, 940 W. Riverside Blvd., in reference to an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and informed the employees of the robbery.
An employee of the store retrieved a handgun and shot the suspect. Rockford Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced the suspect dead.
The suspect in the armed robbery was identified as 17-year-old Brandon M. Pierce of Rockford.
Rockford police are conducting follow-up investigation into the incident. Rockford Police detectives have reviewed the facts of the investigation with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
