Homeless man arrested after hijacking car from 84-year-old woman at Rockford Walmart

Rockford police responded to the Walmart store at 3849 Northridge Drive Dec. 4 in reference to a vehicular hijacking.
At the scene, officers spoke with the 84-year-old female victim who advised she offered to give the suspect a ride from Loves Park to the Walmart store.
When they arrived at the Walmart store, the suspect forced the victim out of her vehicle and fled the area in her vehicle. A description of the vehicle was broadcasted to alert other officers in the area.
A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect in the victim’s vehicle at Perryville and Spring Creek. The suspect was placed under arrest by the deputy.
Located in the suspect’s belongings were hypodermic syringes and drug paraphernalia.
Rockford police detectives conducted follow-up investigation into the incident. The facts of the investigation were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, John D. Leombruni, 31, homeless, was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of drug paraphernalia and revoked driver’s license.
