MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. — Cheer on the Rockford Jr. Chariots Wheelchair Basketball Team as they host and play in the 13th Annual Jr. Wheelchair Basketball Holiday Tournament Dec. 8-9 at Harlem High School, 1 Huskie Circle, Machesney Park, Ill.
Games take place Saturday starting at 9 a.m., with the last game at 6 p.m. Sunday, the first game starts at 9 a.m., with the championship game taking place at 3 p.m.
Admission to the tournament is free.
Fifteen teams from around the Midwest will compete for the chance to bring home the trophy. Participating teams include Rolling Falcons, Mini Pacers, Milwaukee Heat, Chicago Skyhawks, GLASA WAVE, Jr. Bulls, Mad City Badgers, Rollin Hoosiers, Jr. Chariots, Racers, Jr. Rolling Gophers, St. Louis Rams, Peoria Wildcats, Jr. Rolling Timberwolves and Windy City Warriors.
The Jr. Chariots team welcomes players from ages 6 to 18, and is one of many adapted sports and paralympic sports programs offered by the Rockford Park District for athletes with disabilities.
The team is coached by Rockford Park District Therapeutic Recreation staff members Justin South and Keith Cooper; the team has a roster of 11 players.
